NIGHT HIKE

A film noir-inspired experimental short constructed almost entirely from still photographs. A woman grappling with a recent loss goes for an evening walk. Coyotes howl and shadows play tricks on the eyes as she wanders deeper into the wilderness of Echo Mountain after dark. In this self-help thriller, touches of hard-boiled crime and dreamlike imagery reveal the woman's authentic self in a most unexpected way.

Fall & Be Found

Music video for The Parson Red Heads (2020).

L.A. artist Tempe Hale — whose work matches the music’s Kodachrome palette with vintage photographs and unexpected animation. Way says, ‘Her style is so unique, and seems to fit so well not only with the feel of the music on this record but also with the look of the album’s artwork and the style of the archival footage-based lyric videos we’d been making in the meantime. It just all seemed to sit together perfectly!’

SIREN SONGS

Siren Songs is a 3 part multimedia live performance commissioned by The Pacific Symphony, written by Emmy and Grammy-winning composer Laura Karpman. I created the videos using hand drawn animation, watercolors, lithographs, incorporating text from Amy Gerstler's poetry and underwater footage provided by Greg Macgillivray. The first movement is representative of the seductive and beautiful sirens of the sea; the second movement is evocative of Diana Nyad’s courageous swim from Cuba to Florida; and the third is a tribute to Dr. Sylvia Earle, a female scientist dedicated to saving the oceans. The video was triggered live using Resolume, keeping the visuals in sync with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.

BALLS

BALLS is an opera composed by Laura Karpman, about the tennis great Billie Jean King. BALLS was chosen for The Industry’s FIRST TAKE workshop program, founded by Artistic Director Yuval Sharon.  The video design was created using hand drawn animation over retro tv commercials and found footage of the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, as well as animating elements of 1970's print advertisements.
